Video Projects

(and other odd creative things...)

Video Projects

Released: 7/1/06

Point and Shoot (c)2007

This was a short film I conceptualized, scripted, filmed and edited
in the span of four days for the Steven Spielberg 'On the Lot" competition.
It wasn't selected, but I'm mostly pleased with how it turned out.

Auto 9 Special Effects test (c)2006

Visual effects test using a demo piece of software.

The Danger of Fruit (c)2004

This is what happens when you get the movie making bug... and have
an over ripe melon you're just going to throw away. ^_^ The video was
filmed by my wife Sheila... because I was forced to be in it.

Weyland-Yutani M41-A Pulse Rifle Sales Video. (c)2004

Taking out the trash. (c)2000

Short film with no dialogue shot freestyle (no script) in my backyard.
Starring Jason Trumpold and Chris Lykins!

Released: 5/16/05

Here's the "low bandwidth" version of Alien War.
This is a segment from the 'Beyond 2000' TV series, filmed in 1994.

Feel free to download alienwarsmall2.wmv. It's a Windows Media Video file. 12.6MB in size, 6 Minutes 34 seconds in length. Enjoy!

Released: 1/1/05

Here's the "low bandwidth" version of 'BBCLewis' Alien 5 movie trailer.
This video was the winner of the 2004 Alien Legacy fanfilm contest. Roger created this for his
classwork, and received high grades on the project (which he deserved)!

Feel free to download alien5trailer2.mov. It's a Quicktime media file. 3.6MB in size, 1 Min 55 Seconds in length. Enjoy!

Software/Animation Projects

This is a fan made DOS Program that somewhat replicates the startup and
activation screens of the Remote Sentry Guns computers seen in Aliens!
The program was originally created by Master Kenobi and shared with everyone over
at the original Aliens (Now Alien Legacy) EZBoard discussion boards!

Download the System 31 Security Gun program ZIP file.

Total size is 0.11MB. It's TINY! Anyone else remember when 2MB of RAM in a PC
was considered HUGE? ^_^

** Download removed until I can figure out why it doesn't work. Sorry!**

Just figured out how to make animated GIF images, so I've been creating like a madman. ^_^
Feel free to copy these for your own use, but I'd prefer some mention of where they came from.

Just click on the linked image, and when the new page opens 'right click' with your mouse
on the image and select 'save as...' to save the image.

Created by me, 2004, 6 frames of animation.

Video Writing Projects

Like most Spielberg wanna-be's, I have a few unproduced screenplays.
The biggest completed one is entitled Marines and the other 75% finished one is
entitled Here be monsters. These two are based on a licensed property,
kind of in the vein of the Star Wars fan films being made, but not set in that setting.

Another project of mine is an original work entitled Duel. And a final long term project is
entitled, Death of Disco. You'd have to read it to understand. ^_^ I may eventually put them
up here for your perusal, but not at the moment.

As the old saying goes, "Trust in Allah, but tie up your camels."

Another project I've always wanted to film is an adaption of Alan Dean Foster's short story,
Why Johnny Can't Speed.
WJCS is a story set in a near future Mad Max style setting. The plot involves a father
who's son is killed by a highway vigilante, and the father's quest for revenge, using a weaponry covered car.
If you can find a used copy of ADF's short story anthology, With friends like these, pick it up.
It's worth it if only for the story WJCS, which has not been reprinted in any form I've seen.

Other Writing Projects

I've actually been published in areas outside of video. I've had 2 stage dramas,
The Reluctant Duelist and Snipe's Hunt, originated
by myself and co-authored/polished by Roy G. Booth who likewise has had MANY of
his own plays published and produced across the world.

The 'Duelist' has been produced twice on the stage, and 'Snipe's Hunt' has been produced once.
I've also been twice published in the Pingame Journal, a pinball trade magazine.
Very nice self published magazine, well worth a read if you like pinball machines.

I've been published in Dragon Magazine way back in the early 1990s. It was just a minor
submission in their "Video game tips" section, but it's still neat.

I've also written an audio drama for a college class that I produced and directed for another class.
Listening to it now, I can see it's so blatantly a rip off of another program I can't even mention
it's name in public. After all, who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men... ;)

I've written some small fanfiction as well. I wrote a piece set in the Highlander movie
universe entitled "One Thousand Years." It's a 5 part epic that oddly, I never finished
(never wrote part 5) and also oddly, I don't have a copy of anymore.

*UPDATE: 10/17/03 - Found the story! Amazing what 2 hours and a search engine like Google will turn up.

One Thousand Years. Part One.
One Thousand Years. Part Two.
One Thousand Years. Part Three.
One Thousand Years. Part Four.
One Thousand Years. Part Five (Uncompleted).

Updated: June 19, 2007

And I researched and wrote The Last Starfighter Movie and Videogame FAQ
what seems a lifetime ago. Apparently it still gets read. ^_^ I added a few new tidbits of information.
Soon we'll have enough information on the game to create our own Starfighter cabinets, complete with working
fan created video game based on that seen in the film! Pretty cool, no?
I plan on giving the FAQ it's own seperate page with graphics and all that in the near future.
